Walk In Wise Freedom

1 Corinthians 6:12 | I have the right to do anything, you say—but not everything is beneficial. I have the right to do anything—but I will not be mastered by anything.

The Christian life is marked by freedom. We don't have 613 laws to follow like the Jews did. Jesus simplified our faith to loving God and loving others. Unfortunately, the first believers didn't handle their freedom wisely. And so the Apostle Paul reminded them that even though they "can," it doesn't mean they "should." Isn't that the same with us? We can make choices that aren't technically sinful, but that doesn't mean they are wise. And even good things can take over our lives if we aren't careful. This passage in 1 Corinthians is an invitation to self-evaluate using God's wisdom to discern those habits and practices that don't set us up for God's best.

Prayer: Father, thank You for buying my freedom through Christ. Help me to use that freedom to bring You glory and not to satisfy my desires. I look to You for wisdom to know what is best for me. Help me to see what has the potential to lead me down a wrong path and away from You. I want to walk closely with You and keep my eyes looking up. In Jesus' name, amen.
